For now at least, it seems that tablets are in style, and laptops are not. It will be the sales figures for this year that tell us the whole story though.

Let’s be honest, the little things that usually titillate our geek glands are unlikely to do so while we wait with bated breath for the release of some “exciting” data from NASA’s Mars Curiosity rover. The Chrome team nonetheless decided to push some new features to the Chrome OS Developer channel a few days back.

It is said that many military agencies and governments may already be using a very similar type of encryption technology. However, the information taken from the research states that the quantum keys are being sent on separate lines carrying the information to be decoded or encoded.

Like the initial K6, the K6-II represented outstanding value, often costing half as much as Intel’s Pentium chips. The final iteration of the K6, the K6-III, was a more complicated CPU, the transistor count now stood at 21.4 million — up from 8.8 million in the first K6, and 9.4 million for the K6-II — and incorporated AMD’s PowerNow!, which dynamically altered clock speeds according to workload. With clock speeds eventually reaching 570MHz, the K6-III was fairly expensive to produce and had a relatively short life span cut short by the arrival of the K7 which was better suited to compete with the Pentium III and beyond.

Habey BIS-6922 system utilizes proprietary IceFin design, which transfers heat generated by the processor to the outer edges of the case by copper heat pipes that release the thermal energy to the IceFin blades for efficient heat dissipation. In addition, there are no vent holes to further extend the life of the system by protecting the system from dust build up.

While some analysts believe it is time for Intel to concentrate on its core businesses and stop rapid expansion on the market of chips for ultra-mobile products like tablets or smartphones, where ARM Holdings sets the rules of the game, numerous partners of the world’s largest chipmaker believe that Intel should continue with its ultra low-voltage efforts even under the new chief executive officer. Besides, many want Intel to remain focused on the channel.

Having recently laid off about 1,700 people — amounting to nearly 15 percent of its workforce — whispers around the offices at chipmaker Advanced Micro Devices are already focusing on another corporate reorganization that would probably include even more layoffs.

Separately, NVidia will describe a 20 Gbit/s serial die-to-die link made in 28-nm CMOS. It runs on a 0.9 V supply and has power efficiency of 0.54pJ/b. The interconnect might be part of Nvidia’s Project Denver, a still secretive family of processors merging ARM and graphics cores for everything from notebooks to supercomputers.

ODM sales — again, a harbinger of orders placed by computer sellers for future PC deliveries — this year were also weak when compared to the months leading up to Windows 7’s launch in 2009.

We think sourcing prices from a huge online retailer gives us more realistic figures, though—so much so that we quoted Newegg prices long before this guide got a sponsor. Dedicated price search engines can find better deals, but they often pull up unrealistically low prices from small and potentially unreliable e-tailers. If you’re going to spend several hundred (or thousand) dollars on a PC, we think you’ll be more comfortable doing so at a large e-tailer with a proven track record and a decent return policy. That vendor doesn’t have to be as big as Newegg, but it probably shouldn’t be as small as Joe Bob’s Discount Computer Warehouse, either.

The BIOSTAR Hi-Fi A85S3 and A75S3 boards also feature the Charger Booster function. With Charger Booster technology, you are able to charge your devices up to 42 % faster.

SANTA CLARA, Calif., Nov. 5, 2012 – As big data, high-performance computing (HPC) and cloud-computing applications push the demand for real-time access of data into the zettabytes, Intel Corporation announced today its next-generation data center solid-state drive (SSD), the Intel® Solid-State Drive DC S3700 Series, designed to remove storage bottlenecks and maximize multi-core CPU performance. The Intel SSD DC S3700 Series delivers fast, consistent performance and low latencies along with strong data protection and high endurance to help IT personnel support today’s most demanding data center applications.

Intel Corp.’s demonstration of next unit of computing (NUC) ultra-small form-factor concept made a splash earlier this year and caused a huge disappointment as Intel only positioned NUC for embedded, digital signage and similar applications. However, Intel has quietly introduced two NUC barebones for consumers and will start to sell them next month in retail. Unfortunately, ultra-small, yet powerful PCs will be quite expensive.

Chrome’s stragglers still haven’t gone away, but account for a much smaller share of its user base than they do Firefox; around 14 percent of Chrome users are on obsolete versions of the browser.

Snapping the VivoTab RT into its keyboard sidekick roughly doubles the weight and expands the system’s girth by 0.41″ (10.4 mm). Add the little rubber feet affixed to the bottom of the dock, and the system gets thicker still. However, the complete package remains easily portable. All in all, you’re looking at hefting 2.3 lbs, or just over one kilogram.

The results give Activision ATVI -1.85% some momentum leading into the holiday season — with the major launch of “Call of Duty: Black Ops 2” on deck for next week.

OSRC staff primarily worked to develop the Linux support for AMD’s server processors, but they also wrote code and extensions for related desktop and notebook CPUs – for example, they looked after the code to support CPU frequency scaling for the PowerNow and Turbo Core technologies.

Even there, it’s still a bit hidden. You have to open chrome://flags and then look for the “Show Chrome Apps Launcher” option all the way at the bottom of the page.
